It’s 9 p.m., you’re hungry, the fridge is empty, and every delivery app on your phone is in Korean or wants a phone number you don’t have. Ordering food delivery in Korea as a foreigner got a lot easier in 2026, but only if you pick the right app and know which advice online is outdated. Here is how to order delivery in Korea without speaking Korean.

Short version

Try Baemin first, set its language to English in your phone settings, and pay with a foreign card or Apple Pay. If you want an email-only signup and English chat support, try Shuttle. Check Coupang Eats and Yogiyo inside the app before relying on them.

Which delivery app should you use in Korea?

Three names dominate: Baemin (배달의민족), Coupang Eats and Yogiyo. Only Baemin publishes a page aimed at visitors. Its English page for global users calls it “Korea’s No.1 Food Delivery APP” and promises real-time delivery tracking, pickup orders, and delivery to a hotel, an Airbnb or even the Han River.

The Korea Times reported on May 31, 2026 that Baemin would accept foreign-issued cards through Apple Pay starting June 2, covering Visa, Mastercard, JCB and Amex. That is the biggest change for travelers and new arrivals, because card entry and identity checks were the old pain point.

How to switch Baemin to English

Baemin’s own screens are not translated from inside the app. According to the app’s update notes quoted by Korea Sorted, you change it in your phone: System Settings, then the Baemin app, then Language. Pick English and reopen the app.

  1. Install Baemin from your app store.

  2. Open your phone’s Settings, find Baemin, and set the language to English.

  3. Reopen Baemin and enter your delivery address.

  4. Browse by food category instead of typing Korean.

Jun’s tip: restaurant names and menu items are often still Korean, because restaurants write their own menus. Keep a translation app open and use the photos to pick.

Ordering without a Korean phone number

This is the part that changes fastest. As reported by Korea Sorted, Baemin’s operator said in August that foreigners can order as a guest after a text-message check of an overseas phone number, while a full account needs a Korean number and an alien registration number. If you already have your ARC, my guide to getting your ARC in Korea covers that card.

Rules like this move, so treat the screen in front of you as the final word. If the app asks for something not mentioned here, follow the app.

Shuttle: the app built for foreigners

Korea Tourism Organization describes Shuttle as a food delivery app designed specifically for foreigners. The same article warns that service may be limited in certain regions, and that you can check availability in the app. If Baemin is giving you trouble, Shuttle is the fallback worth installing before you’re hungry, not after.

Coupang Eats and Yogiyo

Both list English in app stores, but I couldn’t find an official statement from either about foreign phone numbers or foreign cards. A language list in an app store also doesn’t tell you which screens are really translated. Install one, open the checkout screen, and see what it asks before you count on it.

Paying: cards, Apple Pay, and what to prepare

  • Add your card or Apple Pay before you are hungry.

  • Keep a second card ready, since a bank can decline a Korean merchant for no clear reason.

  • Check that your card allows overseas online payments.

  • Delivery fees are shown before you place the order, so read the total, not just the menu price.

Delivery-day checklist

  • Write your address in Korean (한글) and your building entrance details in the delivery note.
  • Include a phone number that can receive calls or texts, because riders often call at the door.
  • Choose “leave at the door” if you don't want a conversation in Korean.
  • Set a minimum-order budget; many restaurants have one.

Jun’s tip: apartment buildings are the number one reason a delivery fails. Add the gate code or the words “call on arrival” to the note, and keep your phone on loud for ten minutes after the rider picks up.

Quick answers

Is Uber Eats in Korea? Not as its own app. The Korea Herald reported in July 2026 that Uber is returning through a deal to buy Baemin’s parent company, due to close in the second half of 2027. For now, the app to download is still Baemin.

Can I order without speaking Korean? Yes: switch the app language, use photos and categories, and put instructions in the delivery note.

Facts checked against Baemin’s own page, The Korea Times and Korea Tourism Organization in October 2026. I did not place a test order, so follow the in-app screens if they differ.
